The Opportunity

Our GIS team plays a key role in developing geospatial solutions that empower our business. We have an great opportunity for a motivated GIS Developer or Python Developer to join our dynamic GIS team in either our North Sydney or Perth offices.

As the GIS Developer you will contribute to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of geospatial applications and tools. The role offers excellent opportunities for growth through mentorship from senior team members, as well as exposure to a variety of geospatial data and technologies. This is an exciting position for someone interested in integrating geospatial data, working on advanced GIS solutions, and supporting the business through spatial data analysis and reporting.

What you’ll be doing day-to-day

  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts, including troubleshooting and optimisation of the existing systems and geospatial applications based on Python programming language. 
  • Evaluate and integrate geospatial data to produce maps, reports, and charts using GIS software, spatial analysis methods, models, and Python scripts.
  • Work closely with engineers and fibre team to design and develop advanced GIS solutions, focusing on spatial data integration, queries, and visualisation to provide location context-enabled solutions.
  • Generate custom reports from GIS datasets for internal stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot GIS-related issues and provide end-user support and training.

What you’ll bring to this role

  • Python Scripting: Experience with Python scripting in a geospatial context.
  • Geospatial Systems: Previous experience with GIS systems such as QGIS, ArcGIS, or similar; QGIS is preferred.
  • RDBMS Experience: Proficient with SQL and relational databases PostgreSQL, PostGIS and PL/pgSQL experience preferred.
  • Web Development - optional: Knowledge of web development with JavaScript, including frameworks like Node.js, React
  • Version Control: Familiarity with Git or similar version control systems.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders and team members.
