LET’S EXPLORE THE ROLE

Risk and Situational Awareness Manager is a key role spanning and supporting multi-functional areas within the Critical Communications team. They have overall responsibility for continual environmental scanning, situational awareness and planning for all planned and unplanned events and incidents in NSW. They also own and maintain the Risk Register, Business Continuity Plans and Disaster Recovery protocol used to support the management of the NSW Public Safety Network.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ownership and ongoing maintenance of the Risk Register within ServiceNow
  • Develop, own and maintain the Business Continuity Plans required to support the Critical Comms business
  • Develop, plan and participate in tests and exercises to maintain preparedness, demonstrate the validity of the BCP and improve coordination.
  • Responsible for conducting near-term, mid-term, and long-term analysis, providing current intelligence to Critical Comms leadership team, as well as support to operational planning.
  • Support Service Management drive a Continuous Service Improvement Plan across the business.
  • Provide situational awareness of Environmental threats such as bushfires, storm and other weather-related events to enable and support pro-active, reactive and crisis action planning
  • Prepare, integrate, brief and publish broad and complex all-source intelligence studies, papers, briefings, and assessments in coordination with the Telco Authority (TA), Telco Emergency Management Unit (TEMU) and other User Agencies on known NSW related issues, to inform and support senior decision makers in budgeting, operational, planning, and policy decisions.
  • Author Situational Awareness briefing reports with the NOCC.
  • Serve as SME to support planned exercises, training events and crisis response operations as required, supervising others’ actions during exercises and provide feedback and after action reporting.
  • Work closely with Security Compliance and ITSM teams to identify and analyse short-turnaround reports on Cyber threat issues.
  • During major incidents and Emergency Events, triage information from a variety of resources and conduct initial analysis of the incidents and events.
  • Support and contribute to the preparation and delivery of verbal and written Post Incident Reviews (PIRs).
  • Support, establish, and continue a strong working relationship with TA operations, TEMU and appropriate departments within Emergency Service Agencies conducting all-source analysis and reporting, and provide a functional perspective with NSW emphasis on relevant existing and emerging threats.
  • Support preparation and delivery of briefings, papers, and presentations as requested by customer.
  • Attend relevant meetings as required in support of analysing and planning.
  • Work closely with the WHS team to foster Safety in Design and review hazards as part of Risk management

 

 

LET’S HEAR ABOUT YOU

  • Degree/MBA qualified from an accredited university in a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in emergency/crisis management, operations management, preferably in the telecommunications sector.
  • Expertise in Risk Management, Business Continuity Planning, and Disaster Recovery Protocols. Skilled in high-tempo, mission-critical operations and navigating fast-paced environments with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership abilities, capable of driving internal and external stakeholders, working unsupervised, and completing tasks without the need for regular follow-ups.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; adept at synthesizing and presenting executive-level information.
  • Knowledgeable in ITIL Service Management Framework, AIIMs, emergency management operations, and critical infrastructure sectors.
  • Proficient in research, analysis, and technical writing, with a solid understanding of cybersecurity and its impact on critical infrastructure.
  • Strong ability to analyse complex data
  • Familiar with emergency service operators’ mapping tools, meteorological reports, and social media intelligence sources.
  • Experienced in handling concurrent activities with short turnarounds and delivering results for diverse internal and external customers.
  • Working knowledge and experience of the Endsley model for Situational Awareness
  • Knowledge and experience of the Australasian Inter-service Incident Management System
  • Post-qualification experience in an operational or technical environment with experience of Telecommunications P25 Radio
  • Telecommunications: Technical Proficiency advantageous
  • Working knowledge of ServiceNow ITSM will be well regarded
